Driekie Fourie was invited by Syngenta to attend the Syngenta Seed Care Corn Production Conference from 18 to 20 February 2008 in Tucson, Arizona, USA. Nematology research on maize, particularly in the southern parts of the USA is expanding since plant-parasitic nematodes are a major threat to crop production. |

Researchers from the ARC-Institute for Industrial Crops initiated a project to disseminate knowledge of the integrated management of cotton pests, diseases and nematodes to subsistence cotton farmers in the South African Development Community (SADC) region. |

MONTREAL- September 21, 2007 - Dow AgroSciences LLC, a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, has been named a winner of the United Nation's Montreal Protocol Innovators Award at the annual Meeting of the Montreal Protocol, an international agreement designed to protect the earth's ozone layer. The award honors the company's innovation, investment and commitment to protect the environment through its efforts to develop alternatives to methyl bromide, an ozone-depleting substance being phased out under the Protocol. |

Jeannie van Biljon, Antoon Cornelissen and Tilla Pretorius from the ARC-Institute for Industrial Crops attended the 4th World Cotton Conference held in Lubbock, Texas in September. A wide range of topics was covered at the conference. Jeannie presented a paper on the newly established SADC cotton project, which created interest amongst the technology transfer group. |
